The Artist

Born and educated in Havana, Cuba, Carmen Galigarcia expresses the traditional artistic values which are an integral part of her Cuban culture and heritage.  Ms. Galigarcia's style was fundamentally imprinted by the influences of Cuban artists, Felix Ramos, Felix de Cossio and Maria Pepa Lamarque, while studying with them in Cuba.

"Everything that surrounds me, everything that I know, inspires me to paint.  I want to cover absolutely the whole spectrum of the possibility for a qualitative change in my craft.  Seek new intensities!"

"Carmen Galigarcia uses watercolors with dexterity and freedom .... in her oil paintings, the artist has taken the delicacy and transparencies of watercolors to images of greater structure ..... the impression of reality that stops in time is emphasized by the use of color ... allusions based on fugacity"

"Galigarcia shares her travel souvenirs through her paintings... in her luggage she takes her paints and brushes to portray what captures her imagination and impresses her the most..."

Armando Alvarez Bravo, Art Critic, "El Nuevo Herald".

"In the theme of flowers and leaves, the artist demonstrates her fine sensibility and richness of expression".

Ariel Ramos, Art Critic, "Diario de las Americas"
